Since regaining my voice from my ‘ohmygoshimmovingtonewyork’ screams over the phone last week, you could say that I’ve pretty much been inseparable from friends and family. I’ve been approaching this leaving my loved ones reality the same way that I deal with my addiction to chocolate digestives. ‘Eat it till you’re sick of them again’ I often find myself repeating after each relapse. On a good day I manage to pack away the addictive McVities, 1 cuppa and 5 digestives in, but to my surprise however, I’ve since found out that chocolate digestives are quicker to get sick of than friends and family. So I’ve had no choice but to adapt my foolproof master plan to ‘see them till you’re sick of them’ and note it down into my moleskin. But it goes without saying that the more I do things with my friends and family, the more I realise what I am leaving behind *sniff sniff.
As any true londoner knows, living in london kindda makes you immune to all weather conditions (except snow of course). The rain though is pretty much an everyday reality, and it definitely wasn’t going to stop us from taking a stroll through spittafields market with a warm cup of mocha from The Market Coffee House, one of my favorite thing to do on a sunday afternoon.
Since graduating in the Royal Festival Hall almost 2 years ago, it’s become one of my favourite halls in London so I couldn’t turned down the chance to see the Budapest Festival Orchestra, when a friend suggested it. With my wet socks and numb toes from spittafields, I sat there totally captivated by the guy playing (more like ringing) the triangle. Relating to the lack of enthusiasm on his face, it took me back to a time when in year 7, my music teacher gave me the same instrument to play for a group performance, I still remember how I took it as an insult on my musical talent.
The following day, in an attempt to work off my latest relapse on chocolate coated biscuits, myself and a friend had an adventurous 3 hour walk through hackney farm and regents canal. Turns out that a cuppa by the canal, followed with having dinner cooked for you, not only makes for a perfect Monday but makes you question why you hadn’t thought of it before!
“I’ll make you french toast before school” I found myself telling my 13 year old brother the following day, in an attempt to convince him to spend the night at my place, (he doesn’t approve of my TV free living) ”You don’t have to, I’ll have cereal” he said with his breaking voice whilst I was dropping my jaw at how much of a thoughtful young man he’s becoming whilst I’m busy occupying myself with ways I can see the world.
Unlike chocolate digestives however I can’t pack my friends and family into my 46 Kg allowance (no offense), and as proven neither can I ‘eat them till I get sick of them’, that only makes me more sad. So ,I’ve decided to create this blog to chronicle my adventures in the United States while keeping my friends and family updated.
With work, lecture, and premature cosmopolitan commitments however, I’d be somewhat delusional if I promised daily written entries such as this but with my click happy index finger, daily photographs are a given.
