Tarted up boozer
Last weekend, I conformed and had a leaving do. ‘Well..’ I thought ‘not returning home for 12 months is a good enough reason to have one of them things’. I didn’t have one for Spain, as I saw 3 months in seville as a holiday more than anything, but not being able to get our patron on in london for a year is a good reason to dig out the feet killers (high heels) and the boob invaders (tight dress’)
We started the night by lining our stomaches with a candle lit dinner in a French bistro off Upper St, headed down to Keston Lodge for some patron shots and ended up in a cab to XOYO in Angel.
In terms of a send off, I couldn’t have asked for a better one, but no bruises are always favorable.Monday, March 12, 2012
Chocolate digestives and goodbyes
Since regaining my voice from my ‘ohmygoshimmovingtonewyork’ screams over the phone last week, you could say that I’ve pretty much been inseparable from friends and family. I’ve been approaching this leaving my loved ones reality the same way that I deal with my addiction to chocolate digestives. ‘Eat it till you’re sick of them again’ I often find myself repeating after each relapse. On a good day I manage to pack away the addictive McVities, 1 cuppa and 5 digestives in, but to my surprise however, I’ve since found out that chocolate digestives are quicker to get sick of than friends and family. So I’ve had no choice but to adapt my foolproof master plan to ‘see them till you’re sick of them’ and note it down into my moleskin. But it goes without saying that the more I do things with my friends and family, the more I realise what I am leaving behind *sniff sniff.
As any true londoner knows, living in london kindda makes you immune to all weather conditions (except snow of course). The rain though is pretty much an everyday reality, and it definitely wasn’t going to stop us from taking a stroll through spittafields market with a warm cup of mocha from The Market Coffee House, one of my favorite thing to do on a sunday afternoon.
Since graduating in the Royal Festival Hall almost 2 years ago, it’s become one of my favourite halls in London so I couldn’t turned down the chance to see the Budapest Festival Orchestra, when a friend suggested it. With my wet socks and numb toes from spittafields, I sat there totally captivated by the guy playing (more like ringing) the triangle. Relating to the lack of enthusiasm on his face, it took me back to a time when in year 7, my music teacher gave me the same instrument to play for a group performance, I still remember how I took it as an insult on my musical talent.
The following day, in an attempt to work off my latest relapse on chocolate coated biscuits, myself and a friend had an adventurous 3 hour walk through hackney farm and regents canal. Turns out that a cuppa by the canal, followed with having dinner cooked for you, not only makes for a perfect Monday but makes you question why you hadn’t thought of it before!
“I’ll make you french toast before school” I found myself telling my 13 year old brother the following day, in an attempt to convince him to spend the night at my place, (he doesn’t approve of my TV free living) ”You don’t have to, I’ll have cereal” he said with his breaking voice whilst I was dropping my jaw at how much of a thoughtful young man he’s becoming whilst I’m busy occupying myself with ways I can see the world.
Unlike chocolate digestives however I can’t pack my friends and family into my 46 Kg allowance (no offense), and as proven neither can I ‘eat them till I get sick of them’, that only makes me more sad. So ,I’ve decided to create this blog to chronicle my adventures in the United States while keeping my friends and family updated.
With work, lecture, and premature cosmopolitan commitments however, I’d be somewhat delusional if I promised daily written entries such as this but with my click happy index finger, daily photographs are a given.

My Parisiction
Some people drink, some gamble and others smoke but as most people
know by now, my addiction is Paris. If I tried to count the amount of
times I’ve been in the last 3 years, I’d run out of fingers and I’m
pretty sure that the cost of my addiction would highlight my need for
an intervention. Either way, moving across the Atlantic Ocean not only
scares me for obvious reasons but also for the very unsettling fact that
I can’t just jump on the Eurostar when I’m in need of a French fix.
Which is why when a Jillisa bought me tickets to Paris as my leaving
present, I got just as excited, if not more, than a smiling, speed
walking junkie in Camden.
We filled our 2 night, 3 day stay with a return ticket to the year
2062 (an exhibition based on sociological and technological changes in
the next 50 years), where I embarrassingly jumped at the chance to write
an email to myself in the future (sorry Jill). On our last night, a 3
course meal fed, Jillisa, myself and my newly inked up dove ended our
trip with a surprise visit to a mutual friend’s birthday party, where
all on my own, I managed to prove why alcohol is so often frowned upon. ![]() |
